An opinion
But what do I know, eh?
Having operated in a world that predominately (certainly more so these days) seems to be skewed to make you compete to gain success and relevancy (which I’d like to think in my own way I have tried to buck some of it to try and prove a point or two) and then, due to many of those factors and approaches of how our society and economy is run ‘to benefit’ people when you follow those ways-of-working, it is a tad galling (to say the least) – having survived a life-changing incident that, quite frankly, has been driven, literally and figuratively by those factors – to be expected, in many ways to (pretty much fully and almost regardless of many factors, especially if it’s seen by ‘those overseeing things’ that your work involves a desk and a computer) return to that world, fully and pretty much completely (receiving, not necessarily always helpful, essentially commercially-funded but legally-required-by-others, rehabilitation).
It improves perspective and understanding for me of why many people live, whether through circumstances or choice, at society’s edges (fully or somewhat), maybe even struggling to live and support their own families, when involvement with the state seems to be heavily weighted with distant political and economic factors and many caveats that massively depersonalise it and treat it as exceptional and your problem if things don’t work out – not the system’s, that ironically, pretty much made the problem(s), or most likely contributed to them, in the first place.
