On the Equality of All Things
Physics and Philosophy
Carlo Rovelli
Translated by Simon Carnell
Having read it
★★★☆☆
Having read a few of Carlo Rovelli’s other books and found them interesting, thought provoking and readable, it was a shame to find this one interesting in places but a bit of a difficult and not that enjoyable one to read.
Its points and perspectives are no doubt relevant to ongoing scientific discoveries and discussions but it was just that the delivery of them, to me, felt like a series of (slightly dull?!) lectures in essay form, and / or that I had just run out of interest and inquisitiveness in and around the subject(s) covered . . .
A good passage
Science is not nourished by certainty. It is nourished by radical uncertainty. It is built upon the possibility of calling certainties into question.
A second good passage
Sometimes careful conceptual analysis is mere wallowing in the mire of our mistaken prejudices.
