It allows them to talk the talk of racial harmony without ever having to test it in their personal lives.

A second good passage

The national health service is as eloquent an argument as any in defence of immigration. Behind each one of the staff who treated my father is a story that helps to join the dots in the great tales of migration. From the epic impulses of history to the personal search for fulfilment and freedom, they reflect the varied motives of millions of travellers through the ages.
