A second good passage
When Charles Darwin wrote about the origins of life, he speculated that life had begun in a ‘warm little pond’. Experiments such as these indicate that Darwin was more or less right. These intertidal zones were Darwin’s warm ponds – primordial chemistry labs where the first life could evolve, all orchestrated rather beautifully by the passage of the Moon.
A third good passage
One thing is certain: whatever space technology we develop, and whenever we make our next return to the Moon, let us hope, as Gene Cernan suggested back in 1972, that we will do it in the spirit of peace and hope for all mankind.
