Guilty by Definition

Susie Dent

Having read it

★★★☆☆

Despite the author’s (etymological) talents and her own reasons for the book existing as well, it was mostly skipped and skimmed by this reader from its first few chapters onward.

Not particularly interesting as nothing much of relatable and meaningful interest really happened in and around the author’s writing of which too much description and characterisation was seemingly present at the expense of a good narrative flow, despite the publisher no doubt banking on having ‘a name attached’ to the title so it would be seen as popular.

Still, what might I know?

A good passage

‘We’re all culpable of something,’ Gemma protested. ‘It’s part of being human. All of us. In fact, in your terms, we are all guilty by definition!’
