All in the Family

I had interned in college with Congresswoman Geraldine Ferraro. A lot of my friends told me back then I should follow my passion and think about a career in politics. ‘You should be the one in the family to be the politician,’ urged John Barry, Maryanne’s husband [and the author’s Aunt], saying I knew how to be diplomatic and also understood business. Or as I liked to put it, I knew when supporting the bottom line crossed the line. And would it be fair to mention, I was the one in the family with the natural tan?

As the grandson of a great New York builder, I do have to ask: Why isn’t it possible to build homes and schools and public facilities that can accommodate everyone? Why can’t we design new styles of living that match people’s individual needs?

Don’t tell me it’s not possible. It’s time to try.

Now, that would be using the Trump name to do good.

A note to my son, William . . . Remember what your great-grandfather said: ‘Find what you like, and learn everything about it.’

My addition: Then go ahead and include everyone.
